May Book Buzz
By: Jill Gunderson
Hi Neighbors!
I canβt be the only one who is so excited itβs May, right? It reminds me of all things sunny, bright and cheery. With that in mind, I have such a fun series to introduce you to that is perfect for the weather! It Happened in Charleston by Sarah Adams is a 2-book seriesβThe Match, and The Enemy. They are both sweet and wholesome rom coms, and Sarah does an excellent job at penning two people (respectively), who really do deserve love. She also does it in a way that is completely realistic as her characters' flaws are so very relatable!
First, The Match. Evie is our lovingly level headed yet spirited main character who works with a company that provides service dogs to people with disabilities. Evie is perfect for this job because, having epilepsy, she has a service dog of her own so she definitely knows a thing or two. She meets with potential owners, and after finding out their specific needs, can match them with the perfect dog. Insert Jacob (Jake) and his adorable 11-year-old daughter who also has epilepsy and would benefit from a service dog of her own. Jakeβs not sold on the idea, but his daughter very sneakily manages to get a meeting with Evie. Jakeβs first impression of her isnβt what he was expecting. For Evie, as handsome as Jake is, he came off as completely rude and if it werenβt for his daughter, would choose to pass on this client. They both definitely judged the book by its cover and over a period of time, start realizing how wrong they were. This book is a perfect read if you love sweet and unexpecting love stories.
Now, letβs talk about The Enemy. Because who doesnβt love a good enemies-to-lovers trope? June and Ryan have been enemies since high school. They outright loathed each other and made their lives so miserable that after high school, it was a pleasant good-riddance! But, not so fast because12 years later, Ryan comes back to town for a friendβs wedding and they seem to pick the fighting right back up from where they left offβ¦with a twist. They also both secretly harbored a crush on one another that they convinced themselves could not happen, you knowβ¦because of the hatred and all. But now, thrown back into each otherβs lives, they are forced to reconnectβ¦and boy do they ever. (Give me all the heart eyes emojiβs!!!) Gosh Iβd love to say more but Iβd so much rather you read it and swoon for yourselves! This book is a legit laugh-out-loud witty and snarky rom com that you will devour!
Are you wondering how are these two books related? They are both obviously set in Charleston, South Carolina and June is Jakeβs brother (from The Match) so he and Evie definitely make an appearance in The Enemy.
Friends, this series is so sweet and light-hearted with real life issues that are completely relatable. Jakeβs family is one Iβd love to meet and spend a holiday with. I hope there are more books in this series because Jake has a few more sisters whose lives Iβd love to dive deep into!
Happy May, and happy reading!
Jill xoxo
