Title: Every time I Go on Vacation Someone Dies
By: Catherine Mack
Happy June, neighbors! Students are counting down the days until the last day of school, and summer vacations are starting! This month, Iβm sharing a book that is guaranteed to make it into your suitcase for the perfect vacation read. "Every Time I Go on Vacation Someone Dies" by Catherine Mack is a laugh-out-loud twisty murder mystery with a fresh take that youβll devour.
Eleanor Dash is a bestselling author looking to kill off her main character in the next book in her series. Here lies the problemβher main character, Connor, is based on a real person and while on a book tour in Italy, there is a real threat to his life. Why is this a problem? He is stalking Eleanor and she has been overheard saying she wants to kill Connerβthe character, not the real person. Hereβs another twist. Conner is a real-life con-man that she accidentally got mixed up with years ago (spurring her to write her current bestselling books), and the other problem lies with the fact that she wrote this series as an outlet (read: confession), and it is also the reason why
Connor is after her. It is chock-full of real-life crime/murder details, and if the police find out? Well, letβs just say there would be a lot of people convicted, and Eleanorβs life is on the line to keep those secrets safe. Told you it was twisty!
In a turn of events, Eleanor is asked to help βsolveβ the case (as sheβs apparently an expert only because her books are selling like hot cakesβ¦so she must know something the police and detectives donβt. Amiright?) This is why I love fiction!! She and her assistant are just trying to make nice, give some clues and simultaneously get through the book tour with zero problems. But dead bodies show up who are authors on the book tour with her, and police are not ruling anyone out as a suspect. Fingers are pointed, theories are made, allies are formed and stakes are high! It is stress galore! In true Eleanor style, there are slip-ups in every turn, and of course, to complicate thing more, her ex shows up. Cue the feelings that she doesnβt know if she still hasβ¦
Friends, if you loved the Finlay Donovan series, this book will not disappoint! Itβs all things that youβd want in a summer readβhumor, romance, mystery, and a page-turner that youβll pass on to your bestie and stare at them until theyβre done reading it. (Am I the only one that does this?) Read it poolside, on the beach, in the tub after a travel day, and all times in between.
Bonus info! "Every Time I Go on Vacation Someone Dies" is the first book in "The Vacation
Mysteries." "No One Was Supposed To Die At This Wedding" is book number two that came out in May. More summer must-reads for you all!
(Random sidenote: I have to give a shout out to my daughter, Ava, who took this monthβs picture for meβ¦while on vacation!) Friends, if you read this, please tell me what you think! Have a great start to your summer, and happy reading, neighbors!
Jill xoxo
