October Chalk talk - Newport mesa unified
Kings Krew
Following a vibrant and successful launch into the 2026-2027 school year, October focused on curriculum and instruction as teachers dove into coursework and students acclimated to their new grade level and academics. Additionally, the District and the sites launched safety campaigns highlighting safe routes to school as well as bicycles and e-bike safety education and awareness.
CDM's fall sports are in full swing. One of the most engaging cross-town events, the "Battle IN the Bay" between the CDM Seakings and the NHHS Sailors was held IN the water at the Marina Park Community Center. Hundreds of parents, siblings, and community members cheered on their water polo teams. This event has become a much-awaited sports gathering. With blue-bird sunny skies, warm bay temperatures, and eager athletes, the setting couldn't have been more idyllic. The annual CDM Middle School Tailgate party was a major success before the first home game against Santa Barbara High School. It was Neon Night and the "Kings Krew" student section displayed some MAJOR Seaking Spirit (see attached photo/s).
Families, please save the date for NMUSD's College and Career Fair on October 21st at the OC Fairgrounds from 6-8 p.m. College representatives from all over the nation, including the UC's and Ivy League will be participating. Additionally, career and vocational institutes will be on hand highlighting their certification programs.
Our elementary students have excitedly jumped back into learning! Schools have already held STEAM nights, book fairs, and pumpkin patches. It’s no surprise that our students are off to such a great start, thanks to welcoming events like Andersen’s Big Friday, put on by the DEANS, and Harbor View’s Dads’ Pizza Party in the Park. Newport Coast, Lincoln, and Eastbluff greeted new students with school mascots, opportunities to make new friends, and plenty of encouragement from parents and staff (see attached photo). From pizza and pumpkins to books and new friendships, it has been a wonderful start to the school year!
We wish our families and community a fabulous fall and a safe and festive Halloween

10/19-10/23: Elementary Parent conferences
