Queens of the Court: CdM Girls Tennis Team Dominates the Season

Under the leadership of Coach Jamie Gresh, the Sea Queens stormed through the competition to secure the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championship with a thrilling victory and an amazing season that saw them finish undefeated in league play.

Playing against Portola at the University of Redlands in a night match, the teams were evenly matched and after the first two rounds, it was tied at 6-6. CdM dug deep, with hard-fought rallies during the excellent third round to triumph with a score of 10-8. The Sea Queens won seven singles sets and three doubles sets

After defeating Portola for the Southern Section title, CdM qualified for Regionals and defeated Portola in the final 5-2, qualifying them for the state championship match! The road to the state championship displayed grit and perseverance by CdM.

Achieving the highest level of competition at the State Championship match, the team’s excitement fueled their fierce determination. The chilly morning start at Fresno State University was no match for the Sea Queens’ enthusiasm, as they played well and won three matches to obtain an early lead. They continued to battle against their opponents from Los Altos Hills in Northern California, but after three and one-half hours of play, the scoreboard read 3-4, as CdM dropped the lead. Los Altos Hills played extremely well and it was a high-quality match.

The success of the program is also a testament to the incredible support system in the community. In addition to Head Coach Jamie Gresh, the dedicated staff includes Coaches Tyler Gaede and Alastair Hurry, supported by a team of dedicated parents.

“What I enjoyed most about this team was the camaraderie they shared during this season,” shared Coach Jamie Gresh. “Practices were fun and the girls had many laughs and memories to take with them during this amazing season. The best thing about coaching the CdM team is watching the girls improve, compete and have fun in a team environment.”

While every player contributed to their phenomenal season, several standout players were recognized for their amazing efforts:

MVP Awards: #1 Singles Emilie Lew and #2 Singles Polina Briggs, both seniors.

Most Improved Awards: Julia Cross, Singles  and Madi Jackson, Doubles

Coach’s Awards: Sasha Briggs and Isabel Roytman are two seniors who played amazing doubles together all year long.

Senior Emilie Lew will continue her career on court as she has committed to play for Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri. As the seniors prepare to head off to college, they leave behind a legacy of excellence and a blueprint for the underclassmen. The CDM girls are excited for next season and will do their best to continue to build upon this past season.

Congratulations to the entire Sea Queens Team on a spectacular season!
