Chef Angelo Sosa Brings Two Limited-Time Culinary Pop-Ups to VEA Newport Beach

Chef’s kiss! VEA Newport Beach is giving local diners two new reasons to linger a little longer this summer with the arrival of Beso Burger and Taqueria Amada, a pair of limited-time culinary pop-ups created in collaboration with acclaimed Chef Angelo Sosa.

Available now through September 30, the two concepts bring distinct yet complementary dining experiences to the resort. Beso Burger offers a playful, chef-driven interpretation of an American classic at Edge Bar, while Taqueria Amada introduces a vibrant menu of Mexican street-inspired dishes at VIEW Restaurant.

We recently had the opportunity to experience both pop-ups firsthand, and the Beso Burger was easily one of the best burgers we have ever had. Rich, satisfying and thoughtfully composed, it delivers all the familiar comfort of a great burger while still feeling polished enough for the setting.

Served at Edge Bar, Beso Burger feels especially well suited to a leisurely afternoon by the pool, an early evening gathering or a casual sunset meal with friends. The signature burger is also available through In-Room Dining for resort guests who would rather enjoy it from the comfort of their room.

The experience does not stop with the burger. Guests can also order the Signature French Fry Vanilla Milkshake, an unexpected sweet-and-savory pairing that is every bit as fun as it sounds. The menu is rounded out with sake, adding another distinctive touch to a concept that embraces nostalgia while keeping the experience fresh and contemporary.

At VIEW Restaurant, Taqueria Amada shifts the focus to bright flavors, shareable plates and Mexican street-food influences. The menu begins with the Tuna Tostada, a fresh and refined bite that balances delicate texture with vibrant flavor.

The Street Corn Tostada offers a playful take on a familiar favorite, while the Fish Taco delivers the kind of light, flavorful dish that feels perfectly at home near the coast. Each plate is designed to be enjoyed slowly and shared across the table, making Taqueria Amada an ideal choice for a relaxed lunch, cocktails with friends or an evening that unfolds over several courses.

For dessert, the Vanilla Bean Flan provides a smooth, elegant finish. Guests can also enjoy the Hibiscus and Pineapple Agua Fresca, a refreshing tropical option that is available with or without alcohol.

As memorable as the food was, Chef Sosa himself made the experience especially enjoyable. He greeted guests, encouraged everyone to try the full menu and made a point of ensuring that each person had everything they needed. His warmth and attention to detail extended well beyond the kitchen and set the tone for the entire event.

When we asked him about the secret ingredient in one of the taco bites, he smiled and answered with one word: β€œLove.”

It was a simple response, but one that captured the spirit of both pop-ups. From the bold flavors and thoughtful presentation to the genuine hospitality, there is a sense of care behind every part of the experience.
