Duffy Chats with Courtenay Lowe of La Voie Activewear
Courtenay Lowe, Founder of La Voie Activewear
Meet Courtenay Lowe, a Newport Beach native and the founder of La Voie, an emerging activewear brand that brings together two things that have long been part of her life: fitness and style.
After growing up in Newport Beach, Courtenay left California for college and eventually moved to New York City, where she began building her professional career. Years later, she found herself drawn back home with an idea for something of her own. That idea would become La Voie, a collection of sophisticated, performance-driven activewear designed to move effortlessly from a workout into everyday life.
For Courtenay, returning to Newport Beach also meant returning to a place where her family’s history runs deep. Her mother and grandmother are an important part of that story, and their experience and influence would prove valuable as Courtenay took on the challenge of building a brand from the ground up.
The idea for La Voie grew from Courtenay’s own lifestyle and a lifelong passion for fitness and fashion. She saw an opportunity to create activewear that could deliver the performance women want while still feeling polished enough to wear well beyond a workout.
La Voie translates to “the way,” a name that captures the idea behind the brand as well as Courtenay’s own journey. Rather than designing pieces solely for the gym, she set out to create a collection that fits into the many different parts of a woman’s day.
Bringing that vision to life required Courtenay to learn every aspect of creating an apparel brand. She immersed herself in product development, fabrics, fit, manufacturing and the countless details involved in taking a design from an initial concept to a finished piece. Her family’s experience became an important resource along the way, with both her mother and grandmother offering guidance as she navigated the process of launching a business of her own.
The materials themselves are also an important part of what Courtenay wants La Voie to represent. The collection features seamless construction and innovative materials free from BPAs, PFAS and heavy metals, with a focus on quality and longevity. The goal is to create pieces that not only look and perform the way Courtenay envisioned, but are made to remain part of a woman’s wardrobe rather than following the cycle of disposable fashion.
While activewear is where La Voie begins, Courtenay sees the brand as something broader. She is building it around a lifestyle that feels particularly familiar in Newport Beach, where a morning workout can easily lead to coffee with friends, errands around town, lunch or an afternoon near the water. Her vision is for women to move through the different parts of their day without feeling the need to completely change what they wear.
Launching an independent brand in an already competitive activewear market is no small undertaking, and Courtenay is still in the early stages of that journey. Her immediate focus is on introducing La Voie to more women, continuing to build awareness and thoughtfully grow the business while staying true to the aesthetic and standards she established from the beginning.
We recently welcomed Courtenay aboard Duffy Chats to hear more about that journey, from growing up in Newport Beach and her years in New York to the decision to return home and turn an idea into a growing activewear brand. We also put her Newport Beach knowledge to the test, asking this lifelong local to share some of her favorite places around town.
