Zov’s Restaurant is slated to open on 17th Street in costa mesa

Located along 17th Street near the border of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, the area’s growing dining scene is adding another notable name. Zov’s is set to open at 428 E. 17th St., taking over the former Playa Mesa location, with an anticipated opening in late 2026. The new restaurant follows Zov’s expansion into San Clemente earlier this year.

Already home to popular restaurants including Ospi, Oak & Coal, Tabu Shabu and Salt & Lime, 17th Street continues to grow as a dining destination for both Newport Beach and Costa Mesa residents. Zov’s will bring its longtime approach to Mediterranean-inspired food and family hospitality to the neighborhood.

Zov Karamardian and her husband, Gary, opened the original Zov’s in 1987, building the restaurant around Mediterranean flavors and recipes influenced by Zov’s family and culinary background. Nearly four decades later, the company remains a family operation. Their son Armen serves as CEO, daughter Taleene is involved in creative and operations, and granddaughter Morgan leads branding and marketing. Zov’s currently has locations in Tustin, Irvine, Newport Coast and San Clemente.

Guests at the Costa Mesa restaurant can expect many of the dishes associated with Zov’s, including grilled lamb chops, house-made hummus and baba ghanoush, seafood, flatbreads, pastas and seasonal salads. The beverage menu is also expected to feature cocktails incorporating fresh citrus and herbs, wines from California and Mediterranean regions, craft beer and non-alcoholic selections.

Zov’s Costa Mesa is expected to open in late 2026 at 428 E. 17th St.
